چکیده

Modeling of plant metabolism offers new approaches to improve the understanding of complex biological processes. In this paper we present a framework for the constraintbased stoichiometric analysis of crop plant metabolic models, which combines tools for (1) model reconstruction, (2) model analysis (i.e. flux balance analysis), and (3) model visualization. The approach is illustrated by describing its application to the modeling of cereal seed metabolism.

A pathway-specific microarray analysis highlights the complex and co-ordinated transcriptional networks of the developing grain of field-grown barley

The aim of the study was to describe the molecular and biochemical interactions associated with amino acid biosynthesis and storage protein accumulation in the developing grains of field-grown barley. Our strategy was to analyse the transcription of genes associated with the biosynthesis of storage products during the development of field-grown barley grains using a grain-specific microarray as...

Regulation of dormancy in barley by blue light and after-ripening: effects on abscisic acid and gibberellin metabolism.

White light strongly promotes dormancy in freshly harvested cereal grains, whereas dark and after-ripening have the opposite effect. We have analyzed the interaction of light and after-ripening on abscisic acid (ABA) and gibberellin (GA) metabolism genes and dormancy in barley (Hordeum vulgare 'Betzes'). Analysis of gene expression in imbibed barley grains shows that different ABA metabolism ge...

Effects of Barley Grain Particle Size on Ruminal Fermentation and Carcass Characteristics of Male Lambs Fed High Urea Diet

Two experiments were conducted to evaluate effects of barley grains particle size on ruminal pH and ammonia concentration of rams (experiment 1) and carcass characteristics (experiment 2) of male lambs fed high urea diet. Treatments in two experiments were (1: basal diet + whole barley grains, 2: basal diet + ground barley grains with a 5 mm screen, 3: basal diet + ground barley grains with a 3...

Transcriptome Assembly and Analysis of Tibetan Hulless Barley (Hordeum vulgare L. var. nudum) Developing Grains, with Emphasis on Quality Properties

BACKGROUND Hulless barley is attracting increasing attention due to its unique nutritional value and potential health benefits. However, the molecular biology of the barley grain development and nutrient storage are not well understood. Furthermore, the genetic potential of hulless barley has not been fully tapped for breeding. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS In the present study, we investiga...

Comparative energy content and amino acid digestibility of barley obtained from diverse sources fed to growing pigs

OBJECTIVE Two experiments were conducted to determine the content of digestible energy (DE) and metabolizable energy (ME) as well as the apparent ileal digestibility (AID) and standardized ileal digestibility (SID) of crude protein (CP) and amino acids (AA) in barley grains obtained from Australia, France or Canada. METHODS In Exp. 1, 18 growing barrows (Duroc×Landrace×Yorkshire; 31.5±3.2 kg)...
